The choir has been in existence since 2006 when local mum, Helen Kelly, asked a group of local Worstead friends to meet up for a sing in the playground of Worstead primary school. Eventually the group asked Sam Schiller to lead them and, as the group grew in numbers, regular rehearsals took place in the a small room at the Worstead Queen Elizabeth hall.

Later, the pianist, Karen Smith, worked with the group and eventually Beverley Downes took the reins and started to transform the choir into a four part SATB choir.

Beverley enlarged their repertoire and as the choir grew it moved into the main hall in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and began to give concerts around the area.

The choir also began to involve local musicians to take part in their concerts such as The Celebration of Norfolk in Music at Hickling Church. It also moved rehearsals to Dilham Village Hall, which was smaller and acoustically better.

But after many successful years, Beverley decided it was time to leave and in 2024 the choir asked Adrian Connell to play for their Singalong Concert. Adrian was well known for being the stage director and musical director of the Norfolk YMT for 25 years and stood in for a few rehearsals and was then asked to conduct the group and act as MD. Recently he conducted the choir in concerts at North Walsham Methodist Church, Worstead Church and Stalham Baptist Church.

The choir now meets in Dilham Village Hall on Thursdays from 7.30 to 9.30pm. If you enjoy singing why not come along for two weeks’ free trial and meet new friends? A lot of the members don’t read music, so the conductor teaches small sections at a time to help with any tricky bits. Plus you will never be asked to sing solo!
